!!! NOT AVAILABLE !!! Idlewild House is a comfortable tranquil home overlooking Tobago's capital, Scarborough. Higher than the flight of the swallows, it offers the most spectacular views of the Atlantic, the Caribbean and the wooded hills of Tobago's Main Ridge.
The house is built along traditional lines and is designed to catch the breezes. Set in former agricultural land, it has its own kitchen garden, fruit trees and a gently sloping path through terraces which lead down to a nature trail through a climax rain forest and bamboo grove. In amongst the hills and gullies of rural Tobago and surrounded by lush vegetation, its detached position makes it a haven for local bird life; over 40 species can be viewed around the house and grounds. Overlooking the rainforest amid the luxuriant terraces of flowers, shrubs and fruit trees is a wooden gazebo, a perfect spot for viewing the wildlife or just relaxing away from it all.
Open and airy, spacious and light, the house is detached enough to be a secluded, quiet sanctuary, yet near enough to pop to Scarborough or set off for any other part of the island. The nearest secluded beach is within easy reach. The best of all worlds.
The house sits in 1.25 acres of land. The building itself is 4500 square feet with room to expand if needed.
The house consists of: An open plan downstairs which has a living room leading through to a reading/relaxing room, which leads to a kitchen/dining area. The space is light, open, large, cool and airy. Beside the kitchen area is a large scullery and downstairs cloakroom. No matter where you are downstairs there is always a beautiful view to look out into.
Upstairs is a master bedroom with its own bathroom - light and spacious catching the early morning rising sun. There are 3 other spacious bedrooms upstairs all of which lead out onto a balcony which affords a spectacular view of the Atlantic and the port of Scarborough and on a clear day has Trinidad in view. At night, the lights of the town and the harbour provide a romantic nightscape. There is one large bathroom that serves these three bedrooms. Each room has cupboard space and the long elegant hallway has a double storage cupboard. There is a self-contained studio apartment adjoining the south side of the house. It has a kitchen, lounge/dining area and a bedroom and bathroom. It is tucked away from the main house and has a variety of uses depending on your needs. For instance, it houses a caretaker comfortably. Underneath the house to the East side is a large enclosed space with its own shower which can be used for an office, a playroom, a studio/workshop - the space offers flexibility again depending on your needs. At the moment it is used as an art studio. The house is simply and tastefully decorated giving it the feel of style, comfort and homeliness combined. And just to add that finishing touch, on the south side of the house is a spa pool/Jacuzzi with a relaxing covered, outdoor lounge area. A perfect spot to relax.
All land taxes are up to date.
